Mr. Cohen supports the development of the venture capital and entrepreneurial community in Florida through a mix of strategy and execution, assembling strategic partnerships and mentoring leaders. Mr. Cohen’s  philanthropic ideals led him to develop his long term dream of building a collaborative community in which entrepreneurs in Florida have the opportunity to raise the capital they require locally and thrive with the support of service providers, while providing fruitful investments to stakeholders.

His extensive tenure including executive positions in the public sector at JPMorgan Treasury Technologies, Barclay’s Bank North America, and Lehman Brothers Fixed Income Business as well as a number of influential positions in the private sector, support his foresight and execution. After working in the fast pace, Wall Street environment as an executive for banks and large private conglomerates for over thirty years, Irv made the transition to Florida while relocating 2100 jobs from New York to Tampa for J.P Morgan Chase. Following his exit from the corporate world, he remained purposefully engaged and relevant to current business and the Florida market as he started his new venture.  Mr. Cohen is a Managing Director of Innovations Capital Group.  He has extensive experience and relationships with numerous Private Equity and Venture capital organizations. He is also a Managing Director of Southeast Capital Group, which invests in start-up companies in the Tampa Bay area as well as a partner with Seed Funders.

Today Mr. Cohen is an active investor in five early stage companies, supports the development of Florida Funders, and is highly engaged in the nonprofit sector. As an investor he looks for cutting edge innovation through keeping his finger on the pulse and seeks effective, passionate entrepreneurs that share his enthusiasm for business growth. As a philanthropist he maintains these principles through holding positions on the executive committees of all nonprofits he engages and seeks social enterprises that tie with his overall vision. Some of his involvement includes USF’s Council of Professionals, overseeing USF’s incubator and mentoring early stage companies as well as Social Venture Partners (SVP) offering leadership and funding to developing nonprofits, as well as an entrepreneur in residence at The University of Tampa. Mr. Cohen received his post-graduate degree in Finance from New York University and his MBA from Pace University. He is a Charted Global Management Accountant, a Certified Public Accountant, is the recipient of the New York State Society Certified Public Accountant Award of Honor, and is a member of the American Institute for Certified Public Accountants and the Association for Financial Professionals.

He has also served in the capacity as Board Member, and Chair of the Audit Committee of DHS Technologies, Director of American International Lifestyles, LLC; Board Member of Persystent Technologies, Dean’s Advisory Board at USF, Tampa Bay Partnership, Florida Council on Economic Change, Chair of Florida Financial, and was the Past Chairman (2004) of the American Heart Association Ball. He has served as the Board Chair of the Tampa Innovation Center and is currently a member of the Council of Professionals at USF CONNECT. Currently Mr. Cohen serves as the Chair of Social Venture Partners Tampa Bay.

Mr. Cohen is married with two daughters who practice law and who also reside in Tampa Bay.
